The Whitharral Panthers took on the Amherst Bulldogs on the road for the team’s district matchup where the Panthers won, 83-34 in four quarters.
In the first quarter of play the Panthers were able to take a two possession lead over the Bulldogs after Jack Griffin rushed the ball in from nine-yards in and Daniel Rodriguez rushed it in from 15yards in to make the score 16-0 after two good PAT’s from Griffin.
Amherst was able to respond after the second Whitharral touchdown with a big rushing touchdown of their own from 49yards out to make the score 16-8 after their made PAT.
Whitharral didn’t stop scoring though as Brent Robinson from the Panthers added another touchdown, this time from eightyards out to extend the lead 24-8.
The Bulldogs scored right back with a 10-yard pass to get them into the endzone and make the score 24-16 towards the end of the first quarter.
To end the quarter Whitharral scored another rushing touchdown from 51-yards out by Robinson to make the score 32-16 going into the second quarter.
The second quarter was mostly Whitharral as their defense didn’t let Amherst get into the endzone much.
The first and only score from Amherst was at the start of the second quarter from a six-yard pass to make the score 32-22.
Whitharral had two more touchdowns before the end of the halftime with a Daniel Rodriguez eight-yard rush and a Copper Popelka five-yard rush to make the score 48-22, going into halftime.
Going into the second half of the game it was more of the same for the Panthers as they held Amherst to only one touchdown in the third quarter.
The touchdown was off a one-yard rush from the Bulldogs to make the score 48-28.
The Panthers had two more touchdowns before the final quarter from a Griffin pass to Ryder Graf from 15-yards out and a 37-yard rush from Robinson to make the score 64-28 going into the fourth quarter.
The final quarter of the game had Whitharral scoring first with a Dawson Rodgers four-yard rush to make the score 71-28.
The Bulldogs answered back to stay into the game with a threeyard pass to make the score 7134.
The final scoring of the game was from Whitharral with a Robinson passing touchdown to Graf from 10-yards out and the nail in the coffin with a pick-six from Brolin Kennedy from 25yards out to make the score 83-34.
Leading the Panthers in passing was Robinson with 62 yards and one touchdown. Jack Griffin had another 43 yards and one touchdown.
The rushing leader for Whitharral was Robinson with seven carries for 149 yards and three touchdowns. Griffin added another eight carries for 110 yards and one touchdown, Daniel Rodriguez had four carries for 80 yards and two touchdowns, Rodgers had five carries for 19 yards and one touchdown and Popelka had one carry for five yards and one touchdown.
The leading receiver on Whitharral was Graf with three catches for 64 yards and two touchdowns. Rodgers had one catch for 28 yards and Kennedy had one catch for 13 yards.
Leading the team in tackling on the night was Griffin with 10 tackles. Robinson had another eight and a half tackles with one interception, Kennedy had another eight tackles with one interception, Daniel Rodriguez had six and a half tackles, Greg Johnson had five tackles, Popelka had two tackles and both Omar Carlos and Rodgers both had one tackle each.
The Whitharral Panthers progress to 6-2 on the season while staying undefeated in district play with a 2-0 record. The Panthers have a bye week this week and will play the Anton Bulldogs next Friday at home at 7:30 p.m.
