Whitharral Panthers take down Anton Bulldogs

Two area teams faced off against each other for district play this past Friday in the Whitharral Panthers and the Anton Bulldogs where the Panthers won 54-0 at the half.

For the start of the game it was Nathan Samson to open up the scoring for Whitharral with a 63-yard pass from Jack Griffin to make the score 8-0 after the made PAT from Griffin.

The Panthers kept it rolling with another touchdown. This time a rushing touchdown from 35-yards out from Griffin to make the score 14-0 after their kick was blocked by the Bulldogs.

Whitharral had another passing touchdown from Griffin to Omar Carlos from four-yards out to make the score 22-0 after their made PAT.

The last touchdown of the first quarter came off of a Griffin 12-yard rush to make the score 300 after their made PAT at the end of the first quarter.

The Panthers scored again in the second quarter from another Griffin touchdown pass to Samson from 18-yards out to make the score 38-0.

Whitharral scored another touchdown with another Griffin passing touchdown, this time to Brolin Kennedy from 22-yards out to make the score 46-0 with the made PAT.

The Panthers got their final score of the game off of a Dawson Rodgers seven-yard rush to make the final score 54-0.

The Panthers leading rusher on the night was Griffin with five carries for 45 yards and two touchdowns. Rodgers had six carries for 44 yards and one touchdown and Brent Robinson had two carries for 25 yards.

For the Bulldogs the leading rusher was Gavin Martinez with six carries for 10 yards. Jose Avalos had seven carries for eight yards, Zian Martinez had one carry for four yards, Autilano Castillo had three carries for negative one yard, Caleb Carlock had two carries for -13 yards and Shooter Campos had one carry for -13 yards.

Leading the Panthers in passing on the night was Griffin with 107 yards and four touchdowns. Robinson had one pass for 47 yards.

For the Bulldogs the leading passer was Carlock with four passes for 20 yards. Gavin Martinez had three passes for no yards and Shooter Campos had four passes for zero yards.

Leading Whitharral in receiving yards was Samson with two catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Ryder Graf had one catch for 47 yards, Brolin Kennedy had one catch for 22 yards and one touchdown and Omar Carlos had one catch for four yards and one touchdown.

For Anton the leading receiver was Zavi Avalos with two catches for 11 yards. Jose Avalos had one catch for seven yards and Autilano Castillo had one catch for two yards.

For Whitharral the leading tacklers were Daniel Rodriguez and Greg Johnson with nine tackles. Kennedy had two and a half, Robinson had two tackles, Rodgers had one and a half, and both Damian Rodriguez and Aiden Dockery had one tackle.

For the Bulldogs the leading tackler was Autilano Castillo with four tackles. Adrian Castillo and Gavin Martinez both had two tackles each and Jose Avalos had one tackle.

The Whitharral Panthers finish their regular season 7-2 while remaining undefeated in district play with a perfect 3-0 record.

The Anton Bulldogs finish their season with a record of 4-5 on the season while finishing third in district with a 1-2 record.
