Whitharral routs Loop in playoff victory

The Whitharral Panthers took on the Loop Longhorns this past Friday for their UIL Highs school boys basketball bidistrict matchup in basketball playoffs in Brownfield where they won 78-65.

The first quarter of the game started off with Whitharral taking a five point lead and outscoring Loop 15-10 at the end of the first.

For the second quarter of the game Whitharral had a huge scoring output with 23 points falling for them before the halftime break while they only let up 16 points. Whitharral had 18 of their 23 points come from inside the arch as they couldn’t be stopped from getting to their spots.

The score at the half was Whitharral leading Loop 38-26.

Leading the Panthers in scoring at the half was Brent Robinson who had 15 points, eight of them from inside the paint.

Going into the third quarter of the game Whitharral would outscore Loop again 21-15 heading into the fourth with 16 of their points continuing from inside the paint.

For the final quarter of the game the Panthers were able to hold onto their lead and take the big playoff win to progress to 225 on the year.

Robinson led the Panthers in scoring with 28 points on the night.

Jack Griffin had another 23 points in the team’s contest, Nate Samson had 18, Rayden Potter had four, Landon Lee and Nomar Gomez both had two a piece and Brolin Kennedy had one in the team’s win.

Whitharral played against the Borden County Coyotes this past Thursday in Lamesa for there area matchup in basketball playoffs.
