Smyer’s Gavin St. Clair dove over a defender in a 24-22 home loss to the Plains Cowboys in the final 24-22 home loss to the Plains Cowboys in the final UIL Class 2A high school football game of the season for both teams last Thursday.

The Whitharral Panthers are UIL District I, Region 2, 6-man Division 2 High School Football Champions after a 46-32 win over the runner up Amherst Bulldogs in Whitharral last Friday. The Panthers will face Groom in Silverton on Thursday night at 7 p.m.

In addition to senior night, the Smyer Bobcats had a special presentation last Thursday when Gavin St. Clair was honored with the Dave Campbell Football Unsung Hero Award.

As the News-Press Football Contest nears its end, here are the week nine contest winners. Taking first place this week with an undefeated record of 20-0 is Jerry Boggs. Its not often someone gets a perfect score, but this week there was only one to do it.

Ropes handles Cowboys, at Plains

The Ropes Eagles came up against the Plains Cowboys where they stayed undefeated in district play and prgress to 3-0 with a score of 25-19 last Friday. Ropes offense was able to keep up with Plains as they had 215 passing yards along with 136 rushing yards on the night.
