Texas comptroller issues monthly sales tax allocations

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar sent cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $980.9 million in local sales tax allocations for March, 2.2% more than in March 2023.These allocations are based on sales made in January by businesses that report tax monthly.Cities received $622.

One fatality following Cochran County wreck

A Wednesday morning crash in Cochran County resulted in the death of a teen from Hobbs, N.M.According to a report from the Texas Department Public Safety, 19-year-old Maria De Guadalupe Barraza of Hobbs was traveling north on FM 1780 around 2:36 a.m. in a 2016 Ford Mustang.

United launches donation campaign

On Friday, The United Family launched a statewide donate-atthe- register campaign to raise funds for disaster relief across the panhandle following the devastating impacts of wildfires.Running from March 8 to March 23, all proceeds raised by the campaign will go to the Amarillo Area Foundation.

USDA opens special disaster sign-ups

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is opening a special disaster sign-up for $6 million in additional funding through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program for producers in the Texas panhandle who have been impacted by recent wildfires.

3/9/2024 - DISPATCHED 7:07 P.M. - CLEARED 7:12 P.M. HOCKLEYCOUNTY The LFD received a call in reference to an oil well fire in the 3200 block of W. Highway 114. While enroute, the unit was canceled as it was discovered the fire was a controlled burn and fire personnel was not needed.

First Baptist Church sets Anton concert March 17
