Phyllis Blair Milton, Portsmouth, Va., was elected June 11 to serve a six-year term as bishop of the ELCA Virginia Synod. The election took place during the synod assembly, June 9-11, at Roanoke College in Salem, Va.

Bill’s Backpack donations for the month of Sept.

Bill’s Backpack of Levelland continues to take food and monetary donations to restock from summer break and going forward 2023. For the month of September will be Pop-Tarts. Foods accepted all year include : Pop-Tarts, macaroni &cheese cups, breakfast bars and Pudding cups.
TRASH TO TREASURE: LHS Theater Department designed costumes in Miss Ashley Peikart's class. Students completed their trash to treasure costumes and held a fashion show for several classes. The activity helped students learn the importance of costumes in the theatre world. Annie’s Project for women in agriculture coming to Amarillo Oct. 2-Nov. 6 The nationally awarded workshop, Annie’s Project – Education for Women in Agriculture, will be offered Oct. 2Nov. 6 by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Amarillo.

The crew was working in front of a residence located on West Avenue and 8th Street. Through traffic on West Avenue was blocked for a period of time requiring vehicles to adjust their routes. The Hockley County Commissioner’s Court a regular meeting Monday morning in the Hockley County Courthouse. The Hockley County Sheriff’s Office was in attendance to discuss the replacement of a vehicle their department had lost to a traffic incident.

Texas comptroller releases September sales tax figures

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for September, 3.4% more than in September 2022. These allocations are based on sales made in July by businesses that report tax monthly.

Emergency Management pushes notification signups

Levelland-Hockley County Emergency Management will be sending notification texts when the city establishes a set schedule for Red Flour Beetle spraying. Additionally, emergency management will be updating the city Facebook page and website with the schedule.
