Eagle baseball starts Littlefield Tournament 1-1

The Ropes Eagles played their first two games of their tournament on Thursday winning against Olton 15-1 and losing a close game to New Deal 12-11 going 1-1 in the first half of the tournament.

Ropes 15, Olton 1

The Eagles faced off against the Olton Mustangs for their first game on Thursday where Ropes was able to end the game in five innings.

The Eagles were on the board first in the top of the first inning after Kade Franklin hit a triple on a fly ball to center field, scoring two runs and Trak Crow hit a single on a pop fly to right field, scoring one run to make the score 3-0.

Ropes wasn’t done though as they streched their lead in the top of the second inning after Ryland Kieth hit a home run out to right field, scoring three runs, Maddux Sierra hit a double on a line drive to center field, scoring one run and Brady Bryan hit a triple on a fly ball to left field, scoring one run to make the score 8-0.

Olton was able to get their only run in the bottom of the second inning after they scored on an error making the score 8-1.

The Eagles got three more runs in the top of the third inning after Kieth hit a single on a ground ball to right field, scoring two runs and Kade Franklin hit a fly out to center field, scoring one run making the score 11-1.

Ropes added onto their lead in the top of the fourth inning after Bode Franklin hit a single on a ground ball to left field, scoring one run and Elijah Flores hit a double on a fly ball to center field, scoring one run to make the score 13-1.

The Eagles put the final touches of the game in the top of the fifth inning after Kade Franklin hit a ground ball and reached on an error, scoring one run and Radley Partington grounded out, scoring one run to make the final score of the game 15-1, giving Ropes the first win of the tournament.

Cutter Stumbo earned the win for the Eagles as he gave up two hits and one run (zero earned) over five innings, striking out nine and walking none in the game.

Ropes 11, New Deal 12

For the team’s second game of the day they faced off against the New Deal Lions where they fell in a close game 12-11.

The top of the first inning looked great for the Eagles as they took a 7-0 lead on the Lions. Kade Franklin hit a single on a line drive to right field, scoring two runs, Sierra hit a ground ball and reached on an error, scoring one run, Flores singled on a fly ball to right field, scoring one run, Colton Mortensen hits a ground ball and reaches on an error, scoring one run, Branson Simental hits into fielder’s choice, scoring one run and Mason Marmolejo tripled on a fly ball to right field, scoring one run to give the Eagles the 7-0 lead very early.

New Deal was able to get on the board in the bottom of the second inning after their batter hit a single on a ground ball to right field, scoring one run to make the score 7-1.

Ropes answered back with another run of their own in the top of the third inning after Simental hit a single on a ground ball to shortstop, scoring one run to make the score 8-1.

The Lions made the game interesting in the bottom of the third inning after they were able to score six more runs after two walks scored two runs, two singled gave up three runs and a fly out scored one run to make the score 8-7, Ropes still leading.

New Deal was able to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after a walk scoring one run and a single scored two more runs making the score 10-8, New Deal leading.

The Eagles retook the lead in the top of the fifth inning, getting a double from Kieth to score two runs and a single from Crow to score one run to make the score 11-10, Eagles leading.

Although it was a very close game, the Lions were able to get a double and single to end the game after scoring two more times to take the win away from Ropes.

Bode Franklin took the loss for the Eagles as he gave up four hits and seven runs (five earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out four and walking seven. Sierra came in for relief where he gave up three hits and three runs (three earned) over one and two-third innings striking out one and walking three. Kieth finished the game out for pitching where he gave up three hits and two runs (two earned), striking out none and walking none.
