Buxkemper, Wilson tie for win in week nine of Football Contest

Week nine of the 2025 Levelland & Hockley County News Press Football Contest has concluded, and the results are in.

This week we had two people, Matt Buxkemper and Tom Wilson, tie with 16-4 records, sending it to the tie breaker.

The tiebreaker was the total score between the Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins, which was 44 points.

Buxkemper’s score was 42 and Wilson’s was 46 as they were both two points off, meaning this week we have a tie for first place.

Congratulations to both contestants on the great picks and tiebreakers.

While they sat atop the weekly standings, many of you weren’t far behind as five other contestants had 15 correct picks.

It was a fun week of matchups and there were a few games that tripped most of you up.

A game that no one picked correctly was the Atlanta Falcons vs. the Miami Dolphins as every single one of you picked Atlanta.

The Dolphins earning their second win of the season wasn’t on anyone’s radar, and neither was Arizona State getting upset at home by Houston as everybody got that incorrect as well. Another matchup that stunned you all was Wake Forest vs. SMU, as all but one person picked the Mustangs to win.

Shoutout to Jonathan Golightly for predicting the Demon Deacons win.

Week nine of the contest caused some contestants to stub their toes and give up some ground in the overall standings.

The contest is still very much up for grabs as our overall leader has 136 correct picks, and nine contestants have 125 or more correct picks.

It’ll be harder for some than others to make up the gap, but the winner is still very much in question.

Will you clutch up or fumble away a chance at a prize?

Time will only tell but be sure to follow the contest rules so you can have a chance at the prizes for the top three contestants. Next week, we will run a story and a graphic with the record of every contestant that played this season, eligible for prizes or not, so be on the lookout.

If you wish to know your record or have questions, come by the office Monday through Thursday or email sports@levellandnews.net.
