Panthers trio shines at Caprock Classic

The Whitharral Panthers basketball team competed in four games in the United Supermarkets Boy’s Bracket of the Caprock Classic in Lubbock this past Monday through Wednesday, where their star trio of Damian Rodriguez, Nate Sansom and Brent Robinson shined.

They kicked off play by beating Itasca, 57-49. The Panthers controlled the game from start to finish as they held the lead at the end of every quarter before eventually earning the win.

Scorers for the Panthers against Itasca included Rodriguez with 18 points, Sansom and Robinson both with 14 points, Hudson Dobrovolny and Cooper Burns both with four points, and Christian Reina with three points.

In their second matchup, the Panthers lost to Texline, 68-54. Whitharral held a four-point lead at halftime before Texline stormed back to outscore them 45-27 in the second half to earn the win.

Scorers for the Panthers against Texline included Robinson with 19 points, Sansom with 15 points, Rodriguez with 11 points, Dobrovolny with eight points and Ayden Dockery with three points.

In their third matchup, Whitharral dominated Roosevelt, 68-53, and they led by as much as 23 in the win.

Scorers for the Panthers against Roosevelt included Rodriguez with 26 points behind six three-pointers made, Sansom with 19 points, Robinson and Dobrovolny with nine points, Dockery with three points and Burns with two points.
