Shorthanded Lady Panthers show fight at Caprock Classic

The Whitharral Lady Panthers basketball team competed in four games in the MCM Elegante Girl’s Bracket of the Caprock Classic in Lubbock this past Monday through Wednesday, showing fight and going 2-2 despite less-than-ideal circumstances.

In their first game, the Lady Panthers fell to Lubbock Christian, 50-30, but even worse than the loss itself, Whitharral stars Paige Smith and Rylee Kristinek sustained injuries that would put them out for the remainder of the Caprock Classic.

Scorers for the Lady Panthers against Lubbock Christian included Aerieana Rodriguez with 10 points, Sheridan Neal with nine points, Kristinek with five points, Valeria Frias with four points and Paige Smith with two points.

In their second game, the Lady Panthers dropped a back-and-forth battle against the Lubbock Titans, 56-53. Whitharral led at half but couldn’t hold on for the win.

Scorers for the Lady Panthers against the Lubbock Titans included Rodriguez with 25 points, Neal with 13 points, Frias and Sanches both with six points, and Kalyn Bates with three points.

In their third game, the Lady Panthers beat Wink, 56-51. Scorers included Rodriguez with 23 points, Neal with 13 points, Aaliyah Sanchez with 10 points, Frias with eight points, and Brooklyn Corrales and Bates both with one point.

In their final game, the Lady Panthers beat Munday, 49-21, to finish 2-2 at the 2025 Caprock Classic.
