The Sundown Roughnecks hosted the Whiteface Antelopes for a district basketball matchup this past Friday night, resulting in a 46-40 Roughnecks win.
The win improves the Roughnecks to 11-9 overall and 2-3 in district play, and it propels them above Whiteface in the 2A District 5 standings, tied for fourth.
“Incredible team effort. We played extremely well on the defensive side, very active and connected, and rebounded well,” Roughnecks Head Basketball Coach Kyle Igo said. “The kids competed and executed down the stretch of the game. “I’m so proud of this group. Time to go back to work and keep finding ways to improve as we prepare for the next one.”
Scorers for the Roughnecks included Isaiah Igo with 12 points behind four three-pointers made, Athan Peralez and Nathan McAdams both with 11 points, Kye Powell with five points, Brock Bufe with three points, and Josh Hogan and Marco Lando both with two points.
On the Antelopes side of things, the loss drops them to 9-8 overall and 2-3 in district play, placing them sixth in the 2A District 5 standings.
Scorers for the Antelopes included Cesar Chavez with 13 points, Ivaniel Gandara with nine points behind two three-pointers made, Isaak Soliz with seven points, Vic- tor Borunda with five points, and Luke Gresham and Jose Flores both with three points.
Both teams are back in action early in the week in matchups that could shuffle up the 2A District 5 standings even more. The Roughnecks host Seagraves and the Antelopes travel to play Morton.
All four of those teams will likely be battling for the final two district playoff spots, so the outcomes hold a lot of weight.
