Eagles get huge win over Plains, 44-42

The #7 ranked Ropes Eagles basketball team traveled to face the Plains Cowboys this past Tuesday night, and with district title implications on the line, the Eagles secured a 44-42 victory.

It was a back-and-forth battle all night, and the two teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 34-34, but the Eagles would squeak out the road victory.

“I thought our guys did an excellent job of staying composed. Plains is a tough place to play, and they are extremely well coached,” Eagles Head Basketball Coach Cameron Copley said. “We knew we were going to have weather a couple of runs. That’s exactly what we did, and we found a way to hold on late. I’m extremely proud of our kids for the fight they showed. This was the first time this group has ever beaten Plains.”

Not only is it a big win for the group in the headto- head, but also in the 2A District 5 standings, as the Eagles are now 4-1 in district play and tied for first place with Plains.

The win keeps the Eagles in a great spot for the district championship chase, and it improves them to 17-3 overall this season.

Scorers in the win included Kade Franklin with 15 points, Cutter Stumbo with 10 points behind 3/3 free throws made, Kolter Dockery with seven points behind 4/4 free throws made, Branson Simental and Kaden Riker both with five points, and Malikai Mendez with two points.

Following the win, the Eagles host Sundown over the weekend and then are back in action on Tuesday in Morton at 7:30 p.m.
