Eagles take down Roughnecks, 60-38, improve to 18-3

The #7 ranked Ropes Eagles hosted the Sundown Roughnecks for a district basketball game this past Thursday night, with the Eagles winning, 60-38.

The win improves the Eagles to 18-3 overall and 5-1 in district play, which keeps them tied for first in the 2A District 5 standings.

“Our kids did an excellent job of setting the tone and playing with an urgent intensity all game long,” Eagles Head Basketball Coach Cameron Copley said. “I was really proud of the fight tonight. We hit some shots and pushed the ball in transition, which gave us some early momentum. Defensively, I thought this was one of our better games.”

Offensively for the Eagles, Kade Franklin led the way with 27 points, powered by three three-pointers made and a 2/2 free throw effort, followed by Cutter Stumbo with 12 points, Branson Simental and Cason Kucel both with six points, Elijah Clevenger with five points, and Malikai Mendez and Mike Williams both with two points.

On the Roughnecks side of things, the loss drops them to 11-10 overall and 2-4 in district play, which puts them sixth in the 2A District 5 standings.

Scorers for the Roughnecks in the loss included Kye Powell with 21 points powered by three threepointers made and a 2/2 free throw effort, Josh Hogan with six points, Athan Peralez and Nathan McAdams both with four points, and Isaiah Igo with three points.

Following their matchup, both teams will be back in action early in the week, as the Roughnecks host Smyer and the Eagles travel to Morton.
