Red Raiders add new quarterback to roster

    The Texas Tech Red Raiders have added a sixth quarterback to the roster.

    Tommy Castellanos transferred from Florida State University to Texas Tech after starting all 12 games to compete for the backup quarterback position behind Will Hammond.

    Castellanos, a fifthyear player who began his career at UCF, spent two years at Boston College and last year at Florida State.

    In the past four seasons, Castellanos threw for 6,449 yards and 48 touchdowns, while also rushing for 1,984 yards and another 24 scoring plays. He is one of only 10 FBS quarterbacks since the start of the 2022 season to record 6,000 passing yards and 1,500 rushing yards during that span. Castellanos, from Waycross, Georgia, is coming off one of his best statistical seasons, throwing for 2,760 yards and 15 touchdowns with another 557 yards on the ground and nine touchdowns for the Seminoles.

    Castellanos marked an all-time leading rushing yards and touchdowns by a Florida State quarterback. Castellanos also led the FBS with an average 15.3 yards per completion and was ranked in the top 10 for most completions for 30, 40 and 50 yards.
