Ropes Eagle Football program welcomes local youth players

The Ropes Eagle football staff held their annual football camp July 17 - July 20, covering the fundamentals of the game.

The coaching staff held the camp for the community youth football players to get active and learn a thing or two about the sport.

Head Coach Beau Riker and his staff held the camp at schools football facilities with the kids and even had some help from his varsity athletes to come out and help the kids with the drills.

The camp had consisted of 35 students coming out and enjoying what the coaches had to offer. The camp consisted of special teams, offensive, and defensive drills along with covering the basics of football. The staff split the kids into three different groups before focusing on their instruction.

In those groups, the staff taught the proper technique to throw the ball, catching the ball and even blocking for offense. On the defensive side, they taught tackling the right way, intercepting the ball and even some moves for the defensive line. As for special teams, the staff taught the kids how to kick the ball far and accurately, catching the ball off of the punt and punting for the last drill.

Although the turnout for the camp was very good Coach Riker expects the camp to get even more kids to show up as the camp goes on. The camp was for incoming third through ninth graders to show up and learn about football and what it has to offer.

Although the camp has a set age group for the kids to come out and learn football, kids from around the area are coming out to Ropes even the ones that aren’t from there just to have something to do and be active during the summer.

The coaches and students have shown their excitement on the field as they are motivated to make this a good time for the kids that showed up and something they will remember in the future.

Coach Riker explained the student athletes specifically are making this a good time for the kids as they play around with the kids and make it a fun experience for everyone involved.

Additionally, the varsity athletes have made it easier on the coaches as they take a bit of stress off the coaches and make this camp for the youth one to remember.

“With the kids showing up and participating at the camp, so far every student that has shown up has loved it as they get to run around and stay having fun with their friends that they haven’t seen all summer long,” said Riker.

With this recent heat that Texas has had to go through the coaches are making the camp enjoyable for the kids with as many water breaks as needed.

They take frequent water breaks for the kids to stay hydrated and for no injuries to arise during these hot days.

The coaches and students that go out and help the kids even take treats some days to keep the kids motivated and encourage them to keep going as the heat and the obstacles they set up for the kids make them stronger and tougher for the future days that await the kids.
