The Smyer Bobcats took on the New Deal Lions this past Friday as the visiting team for district basketball play where they lost 69-50.
The first quarter of the game had the Lions taking an early five point lead due to their playmaking ability to get open shots, Smyer was able to keep it close with their shooting ability as they had nine points from beyond the arch.
For the second quarter of play New Deal was able to get the edge on the Bobcats as they outscored them 25-12 taking a 18 point lead at the halftime break.
The score at the break was Smyer trailing 44-26.
Leading the Bobcats in scoring at the half was Rylan Smith who had 11 points, nine of them coming from long range.
Going into the third quarter of play Smyer was able to outscore the Lions 13-8 cutting the lead down to 13 points as the Bobcats had 10 of their points come from down low.
For the final quarter of play Smyer was able to get 11 points to fall for them, although they had a decent scoring output, the defense would allow New Deal to get 17 points in the end losing their district matchup.
Micah Zapata led the team in scoring on the night as he had 16 points, 12 of his points coming from inside the paint.
Smith finished the game with 13 points, Micah Stevens had seven, Gio Garcia and Austin Martinez had four a piece and Skylar Pond and Brayden Wade finished the game with three points each.
Smyer was outrebounded throughout the night as they pulled down 33 but allowed the Lions to get 50.
Smyer lost the turnover battle as well as they forced five in the game while giving the ball up another six times throughout the game.
The Bobcats shot the ball for 37% from the field while going for 22% from long range in the game. For free throws they shot the ball for 58%.
Smyer falls to 6-23 on the season while staying 0-12 in district play sitting in last place in district.
The Bobcats played their last game of the season this Tuesday against the Olton Mustangs at home to end their season.
