The Levelland Loboettes took on the Glen Rose Lady Tigers this past Friday and Saturday at Coahoma High School for their first round of playoffs of UIL District Softball.
Glen Rose 5, Levelland 4
For the team’s first matchup of the series the Loboettes dropped the game against the Lady Tigers 5-4.
Glen Rose was the first team on the board in the top of the first inning after one batter hit a single and another hit a double, each scoring one run to make the score 2-0.
Levelland was able to tie the game at two after Saydi Mendez popped out to center field and Angelica Gonzalez homered to left field, each scoring one run to make the score 2-2.
The Lady Tigers were able to regain the lead in the top of the sixth inning after the batter hit a solo home run to left field to give Glen Rose the 3-2 lead.
The Loboettes scored another run in the bottom of the sixth after Glen Rose committed an error to score one run and tie the game back up at three.
Glen Rose got their final runs of the game in the top of the seventh inning after one batter hit a pop fly and another hit a single on a bunt, each scoring one run to give the Lady Tigers the 5-3 lead.
The final run for Levelland happened when Gonzalez hit another solo home run to left field to make the final score 5-4.
Aubriana Rivas took the loss for the Loboettes as she gave up six hits and five runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out seven and walking none in the game.
Levelland accumulated seven hits in the game. The team had three RBI’s as well as three walks in the game. The Loboettes turned in one double play in the game.
Levelland 11, Glen Rose 10
For Levelland’s second matchup of the series they were able to take the close win 11-10.
Levelland was able to get on the board first in the top of the first inning after Madison Seat hit a double to left field scoring two runs and Delaney Delgado homered to left field, scoring two runs, making the score 4-0.
The Lady Tigers answered back in the bottom of the second inning after Levelland committed one error, scoring one run and a batter hit a single, scoring one run, making the score 4-2, Loboettes still leading.
The Loboettes extended their lead in the top of the third inning after Seat was walked, scoring one run and Delgado popped out, scoring one run to make the score 6-2.
Glen Rose cut into the lead by getting three runs in the bottom of the third inning after their batter hit a triple sending in three runners to make the score 65.
Levelland was able to regain the big lead in the top of the fourth inning after Gonzalez hit a home run with bases loaded to give the Loboettes a four advantage and make the score 105 in the blink of an eye.
The Lady Tigers scored another run in the bottom of the fourth inning after their batter hit a double on a line drive to center field to make the score 10-6.
Glen Rose kept cutting into the Levelland lead as they got another two runs off of a double on a pop fly to center field to make the score 10-8.
Levelland got their last run in the top of the sixth inning after Adrianna Castellano hit a double on a line drive to center field, scoring one run to make the score 11-8.
Glen Rose got their final two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after one batter hit a solo home run and another hit a single, scoring one run, making the final score 11-10.
Danica Rivera started the game for the Loboettes as she gave up six hits and five runs (three earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking one.
Rivas appeared in relief for Levelland as she gave up eight hits and five runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking three.
The Loboettes tallied 11 hits in the game. Castellano went 3for-4 at the plate to lead the team. Tiffany File collected two hits for Levelland in four at bats.
Levelland 7, Glen Rose 4
For the final game of the three game series Levelland was able to take the big 7-4 win in nine innings.
Levelland was able to strike first in the top of the first inning after Castellano singled on a ground ball, scoring one run to give the Loboettes the early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first inning, Glen Rose was able to take the lead after one was walked and another lined out, each scoring one run to make the score 2-1, Glen Rose leading.
The Loboettes tied the game at two apiece after Castellano popped out to left field, scoring one run and tying the game 2-2.
Levelland earned two more runs in the top of the fifth inning after Rivas singled on a ground ball, scoring two runs to give the Loboettes the 4-2 lead.
The Lady Tigers responded after they hit a single on a ground ball to the shortstop, scoring one run and cutting the Levelland lead to 4-3.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, with the game on the line, Glen Rose was able to tie the game up at 4-4 after they hit a single on a pop fly to left field, putting the game into overtime.
For both teams it was a scoreless eighth inning after neither team had any offense going.
Levelland got the lead in the top of the ninth inning after Mendez hit a double on a pop fly to left field, scoring one run and Castellano popped out to left field, scoring two runs and putting the game out of reach at 74.
The Loboette defense held strong as they had a ground out and a double play to end the game off and move onto the next playoff round.
Rivera earned the win for the Loboettes as she gave up 12 hits and four runs (three earned) over nine innings, striking out four and walking two in the game.
Levelland tallied 10 hits in the game. Mendez and Gonzalez were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Levelland while hitting back-to-back. Castellano drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Loboettes with two runs batted in. Delgado collected two hits for Levelland in four at bats. Levelland turned in one double play in the game.
Levelland progressed to 1814 on the season and Bi-District Champs. The Loboettes get ready to face off against the Krum Lady Cats this upcoming Thursday at 4 p.m. at Hawley High School and Game two will follow game one and game three will be played on Friday if needed.
