James Wright was born June 20, 1941 in Gorman, Texas to Ruby (Moore) and Jake Wright. He moved to Seminole in 1971 to take a job as a butcher where he met his wife of forty-two years, Sandra Huggins. They married on January, 9 1973 in Andrews, Texas. James was a long time butcher in Seminole at H&D Grocery until its closing in the mid 1980s. He then switched careers and became an employee of Gaines County, working as a road hand and a cemetery caretaker until his retirement in 2010. In addition to his full time job with the county he continued to work part time in the grocery store for several years.

James was a charter member of the Seminole Optimist Club, an organization he was involved in for forty plus years. Some of the programs he helped oversee included the Seminole Optimist TBall League and Give a Child a Smile Christmas program; both programs have a huge impact on the Seminole community. James enjoyed watching sports, especially those involving his children and grandchildren, telling and pulling joke on his friends, and conversing with anyone who wished to visit. His contribution did not go unnoticed; James was awarded the 2013 Keenager of the Year by the Seminole Area Chamber of Commerce.

James Wright passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Memorial Health Care Center in Seminole. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sandra in 2015; one brother, Dale Wright; one sister, Faye Jones, and one grandson, Jeremy Quisenberry. He is survived by three sons, Dustin Wright, Dennis Quisenberry, and Danny Quisenberry and wife Deena, all of Seminole; one daughter, Teresa Wright and husband Brad of Grapevine, Texas; two sisters, Joyce (Billie) Hughes of Stephenville, Texas, and Gale Rumbaugh of Levelland, Texas; seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
