The 10th and final week of the 2025 Levelland & Hockley County News Press Football Contest has concluded, and the results are in.
Week 10 came down to a tiebreaker as two contestants had records of 17-3, Jonathan Golightly and Tom Wilson.
The tiebreaker score was the total score of Anton vs. Whitharral, which was 78. Wilson won with a tiebreaker score of 74 as opposed to Golighty’s 60.
Congratulations to both contestants, and especially to Wilson for being dead on with his tiebreaker score.
This week’s matchups were laced with upsets starting with SMU vs. Miami, which not a single person predicted SMU to win in.
The same can be said for Houston vs. West Virginia and the Lions vs the Vikings, where West Virginia and the Vikings pulled off the upsets and handed every contestant a loss.
The upset frenzy made for an ultra-competitive week as three other contestants trailed closely behind the top two with 16 correct picks and there were also many with 15 correct picks.
The chaos certainly tightened up the overall standings at their conclusion, and it even led to a tiebreaker within our top three.
Our overall winner of the 2025 Football Contest was Jonathan Golightly with a record of 153-45 and a 77.3%-win percentage.
Golightly was the lone contestant to eclipse the 150 correct picks mark, and a big reason why was his consistency, as he never had week with less than 14 correct picks.
Coming in second was Tucker Rowland at 147-51 with a 74.2%-win percentage and he was followed by a tie for third place.
Jeny D. Gleason and Sergio Cardiel both ended with a 146-52 record, which sent it to the week 10 tiebreaker score to decide our third and final prize winner.
Once again, the score was 78 this week, and Gleason edged out Cardiel with a score of 64 as opposed to Cardiel’s 60.
It literally came down to the wire for third and two others had 145 correct picks right behind them in a thrilling conclusion to the contest.
Congratulations to Jonathan Golightly, Tucker Rowland and Jerry D. Gleason for being spot on all season and clutching up for a prize winning top three finish.
Golightly wins $350, Rowland wins $250 and Gleason wins $125. Prize winners please stop by the office this week to collect your prize and take a photo with our staff.
