Lady Panthers beat Spurettes, 48-44

The Whitharral Lady Panthers basketball team hosted the Spur Spurettes this past Tuesday night, beating them 48-44.

The win moves the Lady Panthers to 3-1 this season and marks their second straight.

Leading performances included junior Paige Smith as Whitharral’s leading scorer with 18 points, also recording seven assists, three steals and a block.

Junior Rylee Kristenik scored 11 points, adding two steals and a block. Junior Valeria Frias recorded six points, two steals and a block as well.

Senior Kalyn Bates scored six points, adding an assist and steal. And wrapping up the standouts was sophomore Sheridan Neal with three points, one assist and one steal.

Behind many great performances, the Lady Panthers came home with the win, which Lady Panthers Head Coach Madison Ortega gave her thoughts on.

“I thought we did a decent job of being patient with our offense and getting the looks we wanted. We are being battle tested defensively and improving every game,” Coach Ortega said. “As always, there is room for improvement, and we are working hard every day to get better at what we need to get better at. Overall, I am proud of this team and their drive to be better and not settle for just ‘good.’”

They’ll look to continue that constant improvement as they’re back in action across the weekend for a tournament in Canadian.
