Lady Panthers dominate Wellman-Union, 60-19

The #9 ranked Whitharral Lady Panthers basketball team went on the road for a district matchup against Wellman-Union this past Tuesday, coming away with a dominant 60-19 win.

The win improves the Lady Panthers to 17-7 overall and 2-0 in district play, and it’s even more impressive with added context.

“We are still battling injuries right now, so we’re off our normal rhythm, but still pushing to get good quality district wins and always prepping for what is next,” Lady Panthers Head Basketball Coach Madison Ortega said.

Even out of rhythm, the Lady Panthers put on a great team performance, where the offensive attack was as unselfish as it gets.

Scorers for the Lady Panthers included Sheridan Neal with 14 points, Paige Smith with 12 points, Aerieana Rodriguez with 10 points, Valeria Frias with nine points, Aaliyah Sanchez with eight points and Kalyn Bates with seven points.

On a night where things weren’t as smooth as usual, each player stepped up to contribute to earn the district win.

Following the win, the Lady Panthers continue district play over the weekend versus Amherst and then on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Meadow.
