The Levelland Loboettes competed in the Andrews Tournament this past Thursday and Friday. The Loboettes would wrap-up the tournament with a dominant 4-0 outing on the hardwood.
Levelland 73, Pecos 21
To begin the tournament, Levelland’s first game would be a blowout win on Thursday against the Pecos Lady Eagles, 73-21.
In the first quarter of the game, the Loboettes were able to put up 29 points while they held Pecos to only two points going into the second quarter.
The second quarter was more of the same story for Levelland as their defense held the Lady Eagles to another five points.
The Loboette offense was still clicking adding another 26 points, making the score 56-7, going into halftime.
Leading the Loboettes in scoring at the half was Leilani Sanchez with 19 points with 15 of them coming from beyond the arch.
In the second half of the game, Levelland slowed down the offensive attack by holding the ball and putting the game to rest as the clock was left running to close out the game.
Although the Loboettes intentionally slowed the pace of the game, Levelland still outscored Pecos, 17-14, in the second half taking.
Notching their first win of the tournament, the Loboettes advanced to the second round.
For the Loboettes, the leading scorer for the team was Sanchez as she finished with 21 points in the contest.
Emery Smith had another 18 points, Kaylee Penner had eight, Destynii Jones had seven, Sydnii Joyce had six, Presley Smith had five, both Mia Morin and Emily Perez had three and Trinity Wafer had two in the team’s win.
The Loboettes and Lady Eagles were neck-and-neck in rebounding as both teams had 28 boards.
The Loboettes led in the stealing category with 14 takeaways, while giving up the ball only four times.
The team also shot the ball well from the field going 55% from the field while going 60% from the charity stripe.
Levelland 44, Midland Christian 27
The second game of the tournament was a rematch from early on in the year against the Midland Christian Fillies. The Loboettes would secure the victory, 44-27.
The Loboettes overwhelmed the Fillies in the first quarter, 17-5.
The second quarter was slower in terms of offensive pace for both squads.
The Loboettes scored seven points, while they held Midland Christian to only four points.
The score would be in Levelland’s favor, 24-9, going into the half.
Leading the Loboettes in scoring at the half was Presley Smith with six points, four of them coming from close range.
Heading into the third quarter, Levelland found their offensive rythm with 17 points in the third, while holding Midland to 12 points.
Heading into the fourth, the Loboettes led the Fillies, 41-21.
For the final quarter of play, Levelland held off the Midland offense to only six points while the Loboettes squeezed three more points before the final buzzer.
Presley Smith led the Loboettes in scoring against Midland.
Both Sanchez and Perez had six points a piece, Joyce had five, Morin and Emery Smith had three a piece and Jones had two.
The Levelland Loboettes stayed tied in the rebounding category once more with 25 boards a piece.
Levelland had twice as many steals as Midland with 10, while the Fillies had five.
The Loboettes shot for 39% from the field while going for 50% from the free throw line.
Levelland 62, Wink 31
For the third game of the tournament, Levelland had to face-off against the Wink Lady Cats.
The Loboettes would secure their third win convincingly, 6231.
The Loboette flexed their offensive firepower taking a 14-5 lead over the Lady Cats going into the second quarter of play.
The second quarter was the best quarter for the Loboettes on offense as they scored 22 points, extending their big lead while holding Wink to nine points.
The Loboettes would go into halftime with a comfortable lead, 36-14.
The leading Loboette scorer at the halftime break was Presley Smith with 14 points as 10 of them came from down inside the paint.
Coming out of the half, the Loboettes defense kept up the pressure as they held the Lady Cats to only two points before the fourth quarter, while they added another 14 points of their own to make the score, 50-16, heading into the fourth quarter.
For the final quarter of the game, Levelland was outscored 15-12; however, it was too little, too late as Levelland would win, 62-31.
Leading the Loboettes in scoring against Wink was Presley Smith with 23 points, 11 of them from the second quarter.
Jones had another 11 points, Morin had seven, Wafer and Sanchez both had six, Emery Smith had five and Joyce finished with four.
The Loboettes won the rebound battle with 40 boards in their contest while Wink had 22 total. Levelland also led the game with 19 steals while taking care of the ball giving up the ball six times.
The Loboettes shot the ball from the field with 38% while they went for 80% from the free-throw line.
Levelland 50, Andrews 15
Levelland would finish the tournament agains the host, the Lady Mustangs in the championship game.
The Loboettes would route the Lady Mustangs, 50-15, to end the tournament as champions.
To start off the game, Levelland held Andrew’s scoreless in the first.
The Loboettes would put up 14 points taking a 14-0 lead going into the second quarter.
Andrew’s would be outscored again in the second quarter, 14-5, resulting in the Loboettes going into the half with a 28-5 lead.
Presley Smith for the Loboettes was the leading scorer at the halftime break once more, this time with 12 points, all from inside the arch.
Going into the third quarter, the Loboettes extended their lead once more outscoring the Lady Mustangs, 12-7, taking a 40-12 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Levelland put the game away as they had 10 points fall for them while they held Andrews to three points, winning the game 50-15.
Emery Smith led the Loboettes in scoring against Andrews with 20 points while Presley Smith had another 14 points. Both Smith and Presley finished in double digits for the day.
Morin had six, both Joyce and Jones had four points and Wafer finished with two.
The Loboettes outrebounded the Lady Mustangs 30-25, while also leading the game with 16 steals; giving up the ball only seven times in the game.
Levelland shot the ball for 36% from the field while going 19% from behind the arch.
