The Levelland Lobo basketball program has entered a new era under Head Coach Jordan Windholz as he begins building his program this summer.
Windholz was named the new head coach of the Lobo program May10.
He spoke about his excitement taking on the role after the Lobos came off of a successful season last year that ended with a playoff run.
“I was just super grateful for them to give me a chance and to get out here,” said Windholz. “I started out in Brownfield, so I know these types of kids and I know this community fairly well. When the opportunity came my way it was just something my family and I really wanted and it’s really been a blessing.”
After the culmination of the 2022-2023 season, the Lobo program parted ways with a heavy senior class after May graduation. Now, it is up to Windholz to build trust with his incoming senior class and underclassmen.
“It was a heavy senior class, but that can be made up for with hard work; and I think that these kids can work extremely hard,” explained Windholz. “When they show up and be consistent, I know that we can do something, so I’m excited for that.”
Windholz is coming off of a head coaching stint where he led the Dumas Demon program. While having a good chunck of head coaching experience, Windholz knows he can rely on past experiences to help guide him and the Lobo program to success.
“Every job that I’ve been at has helped me bring my past experiences in to play,” said Windholz. “I believe in exponential thinking, so my past experience will definitely shape me and its prepared me for the future. I haven’t been coaching very long but this will be my sixth-year coaching.”
Understanding how serious the Levelland community prides its basketball program, Windholz knows that the potential for success at Levelland can be reached.
“Levelland has such a rich history of excellence; when you talk about Levelland and how you talk about basketball,” explained Windholz. “There is a good history on the boys’ side and recently the girls’ side, it’s just a dream job and there’s a lot of talent and untapped potential here.”
Additionally, Windholz explained that the community of Levelland is a great place to set roots.
“Levelland is also a great place to raise a family and a really good community as well,” said Windholz. “There are a lot of really good administration personnel as well that I have met. The coaching staff for me is what made it a dream job.” Windholz has been quick to get a plan in motion to bring the program continued success for Levelland.
“My goal is to get the kids to understand that its more than basketball and get them to celebrate their brother’s success while loving what they do every day,” said Windholz. “I want to get them to buy into the Levelland mentality and when you love what you do you find success.”
To achieve that type of mentality and success, Windholz and his Lobos will begin summer workouts and hit the hardwood with a plan.
“We’re looking to get the boys into some action this summer and were trying to get things rolling super quick,” said Windholz. “We plan on getting into summer league work around here but we’ll take them to summer camps and get basketball rolling here for the boys.”
