The Levelland Loboettes softball team opened their season by hosting the Shallowater Fillies this past Tuesday night, beating them 7-6 across eight innings.
The Loboettes were led by Tiffany File, who changed the game at the plate and in the field, going ¾ with three runs-batted-in and throwing
out a runner at home plate from center field in a key moment.
On the mound for the Loboettes, Jocelynn Arriaga tossed the complete game, striking out three Fillies and surrendering nine hits.
They both played a crucial role in the Levelland's first win of the season, which Loboettes Head Softball Coach Adrian Holland gave his thoughts on.
“Shallowater’s pitcher did a really good job of hitting the outside corner, and she kept us off balance most of the evening. Defensively we played very well, but had some uncharacteristic mistakes, but they continued to battle at the plate and were able to get the win,” Coach Holland said. “I am extremely pleased with how they continued to work until things finally went our way.
We will continue to get better and improve as the season progresses.”
Over the weekend, the Loboettes are hosting the South Plains Showdown, where they’ll face the opponent tournament pool of Tahoka, Seminole, Kermit, Tascosa and Muleshoe. Then they’ll be back in action on Tuesday at Slaton at 7 p.m.
