Morton falls to Abernathy, 80-43

The Morton Indians basketball team faced off against the Abernathy Antelopes on the road this past Tuesday night, falling 80-43. The loss drops the Indians to 0-6 this season.

The Indians remain shorthanded as they are still missing a couple of key starters and battling injuries, and when combining that with Abernathy shooting 50% from the field on the night, it was too much to overcome.

“We saw a lot of improvement last night versus a really talented and well coached Abernathy team,” Morton Head Coach Andrew Brockman said. “We know this tough competition will help us down the road as we continue to get healthy and gel as a team.”

Even against that tough competition, EJ Rivas had an excellent performance, leading Morton in points, rebounds and steals.

Rivas recorded 18 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists, going 8/22 on field goal attempts and 1/2 from the free throw line.

Travion Holland also had a nice performance with 15 points, making three threepointers and going 4/5 from the free throw line, adding seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Other standouts included Britton Boggs with six points, five rebounds and two assists, and Rafael Acevedo with four points on 100% shooting, adding seven rebounds and a block.

Following the loss, the Indians will be back in action over the weekend at the Farwell tournament before heading to play at Lazbuddie on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
