Panthers crush Amherst, 75-25, 6-0 in district play

The #9 ranked Whitharral Panthers basketball team traveled to face the Amherst Bulldogs for an away district matchup this past Tuesday night, blowing them out 7525.

It was all-around domination as the Panthers bested the Bulldogs 52% to 24% in field goal shooting, 32% to 13% in three-point shooting, 60% to 50% in free throw shooting, 25-6 in rebounds, 19-4 in steals, 6-2 in blocks and 14-6 in assists.

“Great game for us,” Panthers Head Basketball Coach Brett Berger said. “We worked on things that we can only see in game and we handled it well. Keeping the standard of dominance and making sure our intensity doesn’t drop.”

That maintained intensity led to some excellent individual performances including Damian Rodriguez with 21 points on 9/17 shooting, making three three-pointers, adding five assists, four steals, four rebounds and a block.

Hudson Dobrovolny scored 14 points on 7/9 shooting, adding five steals, five rebounds, two blocks and an assist, Nate Sansom scored 13 points on 5/8 shooting, making 3/3 free throws, adding five rebounds, four steals, two blocks and two assists, and Brent Robinson scored 12 points behind two threepointers made, adding three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Other Panthers scorers included Ayden Dockery with seven points, and Cooper Burns, Daniel Rodriguez, Greg Johnson and Hudson Prowell all with two points.

The win improves the Panthers to 18-9 overall and 6-0 in district play, which puts them as the stand-alone leader in the 1A District 5 standings.

The Panthers are back in action at home against Meadow over the weekend before returning to the road on Tuesday night in Anton.
