Ropes Eagles make school history

The Ropes Eagles made school history with their football season as this is the furthest they went making it to the Regional Quarterfinal game.

The Eagles took on the Gruver Greyhounds this past Friday where Ropes lost, 42-28, falling at Happy State Bank Stadium in Canyon.

For the start of the game, Ropes started off with the ball first on offense but couldn’t do anything with it as they had to punt the ball away. On defense though for the Eagles they were playing lights out as the first score of the game came from a pick-six from Kolter Dockery to get the team on the board making the score 7-0 in the first quarter.

Back on defense the Eagles were able to force a three-and-out to get the ball back to the offense for Ropes. The Eagles wasted no time as Kade Franklin was able to hit Dockery on a play action pass from 77-yards out for a touchdown to extend the Ropes lead 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Gruver was able to put together a good drive though as they scored in one minute of the second quarter with a passing touchdown to make the score 147.

The Greyhounds didn’t stop there though as the Eagles were on offense Kade Franklin threw a pick-six to get the score all tied up early in the second quarter of the game 14-14.

It was all defense the rest of the half as both teams were held scoreless going into the halftime break with the score at 14-14.

Coming out of the halftime break, Gruver got the ball on kickoff where they were able to drive down the field and get a touchdown from a pass to take the lead over Ropes 21-14.

The Eagles had a hard time to get started in the third quarter as they had to punt the ball away and give Gruver another shot of scoring. The Greyhounds took full advantage as that’s what they did making the score 28-14 after they got a rushing touchdown with around five minutes to go in the third quarter.

Ropes defense was able to give the team life though as they were back on defense they were able to get an interception and take it down to the one yard line where Mason Marmolejo punched it in to make the score 28-21 toward the end of the third quarter.

With a mistake from the Eagles fumbling the ball away on their possession, Gruver was able to turn their mistake into points with another passing touchdown to make the score 35-21.

Ropes then threw another interception in the fourth quarter where the Greyhounds put together another drive to extend their lead 42-21.

Although the deficit was getting wider the Eagles never gave up as they were able to get a touchdown with a jump ball to Reese Williams to make the final score of the game 42-28.

The team had 215 total yards of offense in their game as the Eagles end their season with a record of 12-2 on the year finishing as District, Bi-District, Area and Regional Champs in Head Football Coach Beau Riker’s second year with the team.
