UIL realignment impacts Sundown, Whitharral & Whiteface

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) announced the conference reclassifications and realignments that will be intact for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons, based off October enrollment submissions by schools.

The changes have implications for several of our locally covered sports teams including Sundown, Whitharral and Whiteface.

Sundown reported 193 students, surpassing the 175.5 limit for 2A-II football, moving them into 2A-I (175.6-245.9 students) in football. They will remain in 2A in all other sports.

Whitharral will be moving up to 1A-I (57.6-104.9 students) in football, after reporting 59 students and surpassing the 57.5 limit for 1A-II football. They will remain in 1A in all other sports.

Whiteface reported 90 students, which moves them down from 2A to 1A (104.9 students or below) in nonfootball sports. They will remain in 1A-I in football.

The remaining five of our locally covered schools stayed put amidst the changes. Levelland reported 764 students, staying in 4AII for football and 4A for all other sports.

Ropes reported 173 students, staying in 2A-II for football and 2A for all other sports. Smyer reported 115 students, staying in 2A-II for football and 2A for all other sports.

Morton reported 109 students, staying in 2A-II for football and 2A for all other sports. Anton reported 55 students, staying in 1A-II for football and 1A for all other sports.

Following the changes, the district alignments are yet to be released, but it will likely bring changes to the district of every locally covered team in their respective sports. The new districts are expected to be announced on Feb. 2.
