National cow beef inventory hits record low

Beef cattle inventories in the United States are at record low numbers, according to a U.S. Department of Agriculture report issued earlier in July. USDA’s Cattle Inventory report, released each July, gives a snapshot of the cattle industry on a national scale.

Cotton futures make modest gain last week

December futures made modest gains for the week ending August 24. The continuing deterioration of the U.S. crop and higher Chinese cotton prices helped boost ICE futures this week. Cotton futures chose to ignore a poor Export Sales Report and stronger U.S.

Federal Red Snapper season closes Sept. 1

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will close the private recreational angler red snapper season in federal waters at 11:59 p.m. Sept. 1. After the closing date, anglers may continue to harvest up to four red snapper per day with a 15-inch minimum length limit from Texas state waters.

Governor Greg Abbott ceremonially signed critical energy legislation passed during the 88th Regular Legislative Session following his keynote address at the Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners Association’s (TIPRO) Summer Conference in San Antonio.

Main Street ramps up Cotton & Crude entries

The Cotton and Crude committees and Chamber of Commerce are currently looking for additional venders as well as parade participants for the Saturday event. The Cotton and Crude Street Fair and Music Festival in Levelland is approaching as the event is slated for Saturday, September 23.
