DPS congratulates 2023 trooper class

The Texas Department of Public Safety commissioned 86 new Texas Highway Patrol Troopers from recruit class A2023 during a graduation ceremony on Friday, Aug. 25. The keynote speaker at the graduation was Public Safety Commission Chairman Steven P. Mach.

The Levelland-Hockley County Emergency Management is urging residents and business owners to register for weather related and emergency notifications to stay informed and alerted in case of emergencies. Residents are encouraged to go to RUAWARE.US to register for Hockley County Alerts.

The Levelland Breakfast Rotary Club will host its annual pancake breakfast that will begin the day’s activities for the third annual Cotton & Crude Festival Sept. 23 in downtown Levelland.

TxDOT, law enforcement step up effort to curb drunk driving this holiday weekend

As Labor Day approaches, TxDOT is reminding all Texans about the dangers of drunk driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced an increased enforcement period from Aug. 18 to Sept. 4.

Austin Street food pantry still open

The Austin Street Church of Christ pantry is still open in spite of shortages at the South Plains Food Bank. “We’ve had some trouble getting food from the food bank,” said Austin Street minister Jay Kelley, “but our members have stepped in to fill the gap.
