The South Plains College men’s track and field team secured its third consecutive NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship Saturday, thanks to a gold medal performance in the final race of the meet at the Ross Black Field of Champions on the campus of New Mexico Junior College.

The Ropes Eagles won the UIL High School Regional Baseball Quarterfinal Championship over the cross county and district rival Sundown Roughnecks with a forfeit in game one and a 6-1 win in game two.

Eagles win game three to advance

The Ropes Eagles took the UIL Class 2A Area Baseball Championship over the Sunray Bobcats two games to one in the three-game series. The Eagles won game one 17-10 in a battle of rallies on Thursday night at Amarillo High School.
HEADED TO REGIONAL- The Sundown Roughnecks took the Clarendon Broncos 2-1 in the best of three UIL High School Baseball Area Championship in Floydada on Thursday and Saturday. Sundown lost game one 7-3 on Thursday, then won back-to-back games on Saturday 13-3 and 12-8 for the championship. Sundown will now face Ropes in the regional quarterfinal. For baseball, Rusty Johnson was named Most Valuable Player, Joel Pena-Offensive MVP, Blake Klose-Defensive MVP and Tyler Pemberton-Golden Glove.
