Loboettes secure playoff spot

The Levelland Loboettes remain perfect at 6-0, in district play after defeating the Big Spring Lady Steers, 58-19, at home Tuesday. Currently 26-3 on the season, the win over the Lady Steers secures the Loboettes a playoff spot.

District battles continued Tuesday

The Anton Lady Bulldogs relied on a strong third quarter to take a 45-39 come from behind win from the host Morton Maidens in UIL district 7-1A high school girls’ basketball on Tuesday, January 17. Morton led 14-8 at the end of the first quarter and 24-19 at halftime.

Loboettes cruise at home

The Levelland Loboettes, ranked sixth in UIL Class 4A by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches, dismantled the visiting Lake View Maidens 72-18 in district 5-4A high school girls’ basketball action last Friday.

Levelland down Chiefs Tuesday

The Levelland Lobos had little trouble with the visiting Lake View Chiefs in a 62-27 UIL district 5-4A high school boys’ basketball win last Friday. Levelland opened with a layup from Jayden Castillo off the tip and went on from there.

Roughettes double up district wins

The Roughettess overwhelmed the Seagraves Lady Eagle 61-26 in Sundown Tuesday night. Sundown’s aggressive and opportunistic defense held the Seagraves squad scoreless in the first quarter, while feeding the offense which led to 15 points.

Roughnecks drop to 2-2

The Sundown Roughnecks hosted Seagraves Tuesday night and handed them a 51-30 defeat. Sundown took an early lead, outsourcing Seagraves 13-7 behind eight points from Watson Evans in the post and five from shooting guard Jaryn Flores.

Now 4-0 in district play and top dog in the district, the Levelland Loboettes held off their rival, the Estacado Lady Matadors, 53-44, in Lubbock Tuesday. The Loboettes went to work quickly and established a 15-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Lobos fall in Lubbock

Moving to 1-1 in district play, the Levelland Lobos fell to the Estacado Matadors, 67-50, in Lubbock Tuesday. Playing aggressive out of the gate, the Lobos were able to match the Matadors energy in the first half.

The South Plains College men’s basketball team fell to one and one in league play Thursday as Howard College edged the Texans 87-82 at Dorothy Garrett Coliseum. South Plains moves to 13-3 on the season and will be back on their home court on Monday, Jan.
