Cheruiyot earns two All-American honors at XC Nationals

This past week seven South Plains country cross country athletes competed at the 2025 NJCAA National Cross Country Championships in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and they earned two All-American honors.Both honors came from sophomore Dennis Cheruiyot, who placed 11th in the men’s 8K race with a time of 25:30.

Roughettes beat Sudan, 41-36, move to 2-0

This past Tuesday the Sundown Roughettes basketball team went on the road to take on the Sudan Nettes, winning 41-36.The win moves the Roughettes to 2-0 this season with both of their wins coming on the road.“Two games into the season, I’m very pleased with our balance.

Lady Eagles fall at home to Olton, 70-49

The Ropes Lady Eagles basketball team hosted the Olton Fillies this past Tuesday, falling to them 70-49, and dropping to 1-1 this season.The Lady Eagles fought hard in the game, but Olton was able to enforce their full-court press gameplan well, which gave Ropes trouble all night.

Morton loses to Hale Center, 55-3

The Morton Indians football team went on the road to face Hale Center this past Friday night, losing 55-3.The loss puts them at 2-7-1 overall and finalizes their district record at 2-3 this season, finishing fourth out of six teams in the district.

Six local football teams make playoffs

The Texas high school football playoff field is set, and six of our locally covered teams have earned a postseason spot.The Levelland Lobos (6-4) earned a spot in the 4A-2 playoffs as the third seed in their district. They will face off against the Seminole Indians (7-3) this Thursday at 7 p.m.

Levelland falls to Liberty, 49-10

The Levelland Lobos football team squared off against the Lubbock Cooper Liberty Patriots on the road this past Friday, falling short, 49-10.The loss drops the Lobos to 6-4 overall and finalizes their district record at 2-2 this season, finishing third out of the five teams in the district.

Smyer falls to Tahoka, 48-12, end season 1-9

The Smyer Bobcats suffered a defeat to the Tahoka Bulldogs, 48-12, extending their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 1-9.Smyer completed 19 of 27 passes for 251 yards; had 130 rushing yards, 218 receiving yards, with one fumble, 41 solo tackles and 25 assists.
