Whitharral Boys travel to Dora, N.M. for Tournament

The Whitharral Panthers high school boys’ basketball team went 1-2 at the J.P. Stone Invitational Basketball Tournament in Dora, N.M. last weekend. Whitharral dropped the opening game to the eventual tournament champion Logan Longhorns, then bounced back with wins over Amherst and Cloudcroft.

Ropes tumble against Hale Center

The Ropes Lady Eagles fell 46-43 to the visiting Lady Owls from Hale Center in UIL High School Girls’ Basketball action last Friday. The Lady Eagles led 15-12 at the end of the first quarter, but fell behind 26-23 at halftime. Ropes trailed 34-32 at the end of the third period.

Bobcats lose to Bulldogs

The Smyer Bobcats took a 58-35 road loss from the Tahoka Bulldogs last Tuesday in UIL High School Boys’ Basketball action. Smyer trailed 14-12 at the end of the first period, then Tahoka took off in the second, leading 3220 at halftime and 47-26 at the end of three. Rylan Smith had 16 points.

Lady Panthers take second in Dora tournament

The Whitharral Lady Panther girls’ high school basketball team finished second in the J.P. Stone Invitational Basketball Tournament in Dora, N.M. last weekend. The Lady Panthers amassed a 2-1 record, falling to the Roy/ Mosquero Lady Longhorns 50-42 in the championship round on Saturday.

Eagles fall to Hornets

The Ropes Eagles lost their first game of the season, 64-60 on the road against the Sudan Hornets in UIL High School Boys’ Basketball action last Tuesday. The Eagles led 15-8 at the end of the first period, but Sudan came roaring back for a 29-28 lead at halftime.

Smyer Bobcats compete in Anton Tournament

The Smyer Bobcats went 1-2 with a mid-tournament win at the Anton Classic High School Basketball Tournament last weekend. Petersburg 41, Smyer 30 The Smyer boys trailed most of Thursday’s 41-30 loss to Petersburg, but were able to keep the score close in the first half.

Lady Cats take second place in Anton Classic

The Smyer Lady Cats took second at the Anton Classic High School Basketball Tournament last weekend, going 2-1 and falling to Ropes 58-22 in the final. Smyer downed Petersburg 43-41 on Thursday and Anton 6122 on Friday. Smyer’s Maegan Smith was also selected to the all-tournament team.

Coach of the Week

Hirschi Head Football Coach and Levelland High School Alumni Lawrence Johnson was once again the Coach of the Week in Week 11 due to his coaching and teams performance. The team came off a huge win against the Benbrook Bobcats in the first round of playoffs where the team won 38-10.

Maidens showcase talents at Denver City

The Morton Maidens traveled to Denver City for a tournament that lasted the weekend last week where they finished off 2-1 throughout the tournament and ended their weekend off with a win. The first game of the tournament the team faced off against the Seagraves Lady Eagles where they team won 2419.
